What People Are Saying

“Master Chua’s friendly and passionate instruction kindled my daughter’s love for lion dance and Chinese culture.  What started as an activity that she was lukewarm about, quickly became an activity she was genuinely excited about and looking forward to.  My ABC daughter started wanting to watch Lion dance videos on YouTube, practice at home, and seemed to take a greater excitement toward identifying as Chinese.  I attribute this mostly to Master Chua’s unique blend of a warm inviting personality and his genuine passion that one cannot help but find infectious and fun.  We look forward to seeing where this goes in the future!”

“Learning lion dance from Master Chua is exciting and fun. He has a large knowledge base in both the history and application of Lion dance, especially when it comes to tying it to Kung Fu. Most importantly, he is incredibly safety focused. He doesn't push anyone to do anything they're not comfortable with and always ensures proper precaution.”

”I've been practicing under Shifu Chua for a few years now. He has a plethora of experience that shines through during the unique student focused classes. He consistently is excited to teach the next step, and pushes you to advance your own skills. He really makes it feel more like a learning and mastery course, rather than a means to a belt test. “

“A teacher as generous with his time as he is with his knowledge, Master Chua truly lives Kung Fu. His passion for the art runs deep; it shows in his teachings, and I feel honoured to have been his student in Australia.

His classes were always the highlight of my day.  I made great friends and learned so much!
In Master Chua’s school, everyone is welcome as they are—no judgement, just kindness and enthusiasm.

What wonderful memories I am keeping from my time at the school! Thank you :)”

“Master Chua is the best in his field. I had the opportunity to training with him when he was in London. He gives his 100% when he is teaching and all his techniques are very solid. I have been training with Master Chua for 3 years we covered Kungfu and Hapkido. I have nothing but good things to say about him. Professional approach, highly recommended!”

“In 2016, the kung fu school I train at was approached with a query of possibly performing lion dance. We were well versed in styles such as hung kuen, wing chun & actual martial application to a high degree, however were missing quality lion dance instruction. Shifu Chua was brought in to teach & whip us into shape.

Over the course of several months Shifu Chua took our group from little to no understanding of lion dance, to realisation of its holistic place in kung fu culture, strengthening our own understanding of the styles we already practiced, through the integral nature & spirit lion dance imparts.

Not only did he teach our group a quality full routine, but understanding of it & all the core parts also, for all the participants to experience & develop. We were taught drumming & percussion, the head & tail, the sections of the routine, & the meaning & interplay between all these. As well as the differences between styles such as Fut San & Hok San.

From the lion's awakening, to saluting the audience & parading, to eating an offering & triumphantly spraying it out again(!), this was a real course of personal & group development as much as just the routine.

The training may be demanding & hard, & require much self-determination to master, however, more than anything, I think the true strength of lion dance is the sheer group camaraderie it developed within the school. I little often felt as at home with a group as I did with my kung fu brethren learning & practicing this art. This camaraderie is a true spirit of lion dance, & I will forever be grateful to Shifu Chua for teaching & letting us experience this.”
