Master Chua

Master Chua possesses over 30 years of training and teaching experience. His study of Kungfu has grown and is influenced from a circle of masters in Australia, Asia and Europe.

In his learning, competitive and teaching journey he has traveled to China (Shaolin temple), Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom, Poland, Croatia, Australia and the US.

During this time his training encompassed Northern and Southern styles of Shaolin Kungfu, Taichi and Qigong.

Over the years, he has attained advanced black belt instructor certifications from and also studied directly under Master B. Lee (Northern and Southern Shaolin 澳洲國際少林武術館), Master L. Au Yeung (Lau Kar Leung Family Hung Ga 刘家洪拳), Master Y.W. Lee (Chinwoo 英國精武體育會) and Master Heng Sheng (35th Generation Shaolin monk 嵩山少林功夫). Furthermore, he has trained extensively with South Korean Special Forces Master D. Sung to achieve instructor certification.

For over two decades he had performed and competed nationally and internationally (representing the UK). He has secured sponsorship, competed and won tournaments at national and international levels (Sanda - Chinese Kickboxing and traditional forms).

Master Chua has also taught Chinese Lion dance privately, in workshops and classes in Europe and Australia. Highlights have been where he has led teams for public performances and cultural exhibitions. He has travelled to East and West Malaysia for cultural exchanges and Lion dance training.

Coming from a family of 3 generations of medicine and health practitioners, his great grandfather was a Chinese Doctor who operated a Chinese medicine clinic in historical Melaka, Malaysia. Master Chua in the same spirit has continued the links to Chinese medicine(BSc Chinese Medicine. Kingston University, UK) and Psychology (MSc Psychology. University East London, UK). Master Chua’s final Chinese medicine tertiary year study comprised of extensive research thesis on ‘Exploring the Use of Acupuncture Points in Martial Arts for Self Defense and Healing’ and ‘Exploring the Effects of Taichi and Kung Fu on Psychological Wellbeing’. This research and understanding of the role of acupuncture points for self defence and healing is often reflected in his teaching. Additionally, he has Chinese medicine skills in acupuncture, Tuina massage, moxibustion, guasha and cupping.

In the UK, Master Chua developed and hosted workshops with internships for the youth charity, Fight for Peace (assisting youth in communities impacted by crime and violence).

The ethos of Master Chua's teaching is that everyone has potential to drive forward, and Chinese Kungfu and Lion dance are his passion and way of empowering people to flourish.
